Planks. You should know the shapes and their precise size. You can take a fair guess that they will involve some of the ambiguous cells. I started with some of the ambiguous cells at the edge of the puzzle looking to see if I could find real words running from them along an appropriate trajectory.

Yes they are gitto as far as I can tell, I just tried Qat again and got the word I think it is from your letters, did you use the YAWL dictionary from the drop down menu? Somebody previously offered a hint to think of 'a lie' as 'a tall x' - does that help with your final letter?

I am still having trouble completing the top part of the grid, 13 and 14a still to crack, despite having most letters.
Getting 8 and 10 down would really help.
