Quite tough, but the hidden message from down clues explained a lot and I got there in the end.

Not too impressed by the final step which destroys rather than creates real words (think I glimpsed this gripe earlier so sorry if I'm an echo chamber).

Thanks candledave & lumen, for shedding some light on 38dn

Not familiar with either of those meanings so I would never have got there.

And I’m finally there! That was hard, until suddenly something gave way and I started to make steady if slow progress last night. And then the message in the down clues led me to the theme, which let me reverse-engineer the thematic cells. A rewarding challenge I thought.

Just cannot parse 16a - help please!

And I’ve missed the significance of the title - know nothing about this theme, apart from the phrase hinted at by the down clues

adeano; for 16a, think meteorologically.
Stumped on the title as well.

The title is a thematic colour that has been through the process

Slogged through this one unaided, slow but steady, while on holiday, and enjoyed it. Haven’t come across the theme before, but I’m not one of those who grumbles at unfamiliar theme: part of the joy of these puzzles is to be introduced to new things through the thematic element.

I have just one question mark left on my paper: I can’t figure out the wordplay for 15, “preposterously lend bouncer…”; if anyone can provide a nudge that would be appreciated. And I didn’t get the title either, but thanks drxx for that :-)

Mooncow, look up the first word in Chambers. It has an unusual meaning
