I agree Brendan as long as the amendment you asked Nora to make is to change definition to wordplay.
My reading is the first word is the definition followed by two complete sets of wordplay.

@Smithsax - Sorry, yes, I meant wordplay not definition.

The amendment I asked Norah to make was because I accidentally added the missing letter in my reply, which she did almost immediately, making my next post redundant, so I've also asked her to remove that - she must love me!

Still struggling with SE corner. Would appreciate help with 34d, and 36d. I don’t have the last word in the ‘process’ which isn’t helping with these!

I am finally finished. Tough clueing I thought but worth persevering for the fun of enacting the process.
My only problem is a seem to have a non word formed at 4d, if someone can gently clarify?

It’s in Chambers, lumen, hyphenated, under the entry with the single rather than doubled letter

A magnificent puzzle - my favourite this year, I think, for some great clueing, tough but fair level, and such a clever end game.

One thing I’m slightly uneasy with is 19a. If I’m parsing it correctly, then ‘antique to’ should represent three letters. I can’t see anything concrete in the BRB that matches up for those particular letters being ‘to’ (the antique but is obvious). Any guidance on this, please? Also the ‘A duke…’ at the start seems slightly at odds with the usual rules of having no dust plus words or letters. Should it really just be ‘Duke…’? (unless there are two “Dukes” in the word and only one is missing?

I don't think that's quite the right parsing, quiz. As I see it, "antique to" is part of the definition. You have to rearrange it as Duke escaping death secures a ...

I was with quiz. The three letter word in BRB says "in the direction of" as does the 4th definition of "to". Surely it is just the last two words of the clue that is the definition. Or maybe not.

Not so, jordan. There needs to be an indicator that it’s obsolete

And furthermore, that parsing does not account for the initial A, which becomes redundant from the wordplay and adds nothing to the surface, as well as being a slight stretch on the definition of the three letter word, as one is heraldic only.
