If you're still looking, pebble -
the instrument in 28d ends with a 3 letter word that's in the clue itself.
42 has double wordplay - yes, it's a 1 letter contraction of 'of' followed by a 2 letter abbrev for the 2nd round of wordplay (for the first it's a 2 letter abbrev followed by 1 letter abbrev for 'in the [r]ear' - which you'll need to correct).
If your 36d colour has webbed feet it's right.

thepost - I think you've had a good clue but I'll try to clarify it slightly - the 'x to y' bit is what the 5 letter word turns the product into (and you're looking for a form of the 5 letter word in the grid, it's the answer to an across clue and has the typical suffix).
Yes, the top line is just 2 words and there are 2 'i's in there.

...I'll risk a compound rather than a 'phrase'

I have steps 2 ,3 and 4 then leading to the top row, but not step 1. The bottom row seems not to make a phrase and I can't see the (obvious?) four letter product but this may be due to lack of step 1. Also, though not mentioned by others, I am struggling with 25 down which has two spellings according to BRB - the first letter is determined by 24A and confirmed by the final entry but the alternate spelling seems to fit the missing letter in the wordplay. Good puzzle though.

raggedy - for step 1 the first letter of the additive should suggest where the product must be located if it's to be in a straight line (you're not looking for a phrase).

For 25d - you obviously have the endless synonym, but both ends are missing (following the contraction of 'on').

The “endless” in the wordplay means take both ends off the word and the first letter comes from the “on”

Thanks Drxx, i was hung up on the missing letter being in "yarn" to give a four letter answer less the end to produce the entry - you've set my mind at rest.

Thanks candledave - as usual it's obvious once you know
