I'll put in my usual plea for less & lit clues at this point. Both of those are & lit, and, as is almost always the case with this type of clue, they don't really work.

But for some reason all the usual rules go out of the window for & lit clues.

It's a proper bugbear of mine.

You’re right of course.. I only think of it with the homophonic two letter alternative!

I thought this was a good Listener and having completed on Sunday have spent a more productive week in certain eyes. Have enjoyed most of them recently ..the multi-coloured one being the exception.

Late to the party on this. Answers going in OK, got author and quote. Alas no idea about how/where the symbols fit.

If anyone is still manning the radio, a gentle nudge would be appreciated.

Taittinger - the symbols go in the clashing cells. If you have the quote you should be able to derive what the three different symbols are and the three that are the same. The clash in 12/21 creates a word I'd not heard of before.

I've filled the grid, but without being able to parse 41a or 35d - any clues gratefully received

41: about abbrev + public transport vehicle + in abbrev + Ontario abbrev.
35d: if this weapon had two abbrevs for "take" you'd have a "false" arrest

41a - 2 single letter abbr. around 3 letter "transport" then abbr. for "Ontario" -

35d - "take" + the letters from the answer give you "(false) arrest"

Only bit I can’t sort out is ‘Another [clue] includes one of the thematic trios’?
