Pootle, I got some of the last few words (from about 12d onwards) and Googling just those gave me the full quotation and its origin.

Thanks Will37, that was just enough to get me there!

Very pleasing puzzle - now to see if I can finally finish last week’s…

Thanks malone and simond9x. Before I had parsed 9D I’d guessed wrongly at the extra word and come up with a quotation about economics. Interesting that with just those two letters wrong Google didn’t come up with the correct quotation.

So glad I was able to help, adeano. I find that devising hints without infringing the discipline of the Listener thread can be quite challenging sometimes. Often I leave it to others more inventive than me.

Think it's all 12 jarsseven. If you're thinking the down part of the most NE clash doesnt work, it would be a name listed at the back of the BRB and so would be a valid entry.

Pootle, for years the standard source of quotations for the Listener has been the current ODQ. I think in the past it was usually listed at the end of the preamble if relevant. In recent years that custom seems to have disappeared, probably because puzzles have got increasingly complex, thus requiring longer preambles that may present problems for the editors.

Gitto, Big Red Book, Chambers Dictionary (the main reference book for many puzzles.)

Before I file this away can I please get a parse for ..

2d - As though Nigerian could be regularly needing these! (6) - I've included the extra word to avoid spoilers)

My answer is definitely something Nigerians would need but all my letters are in the clue but not in the correct order?

22a - In which analyst sees phallic symbols primarily? (4)

This is the exact opposite in that the wordplay seems clear but I can't see a clear definition - or is the general group of the answer rather than the specific example?

22a is pretty general, and a rather loose &lit in my view.

In 2d you need to remove the alternate letters of “needing” and then make the anagram
