I use the BRB app on my tablet which shows homophones of the word you enter (e.g. enter 'see' and it shows 'C' and 'see' as homophones. I tried this with my entry for 8d... nothing.

D'oh! I meant 'C' and 'sea'.

Well, I made this unnecessarily difficult for myself by entering 36A with the two inner consonants the wrong way round - it sounds more like a real word to me that way - and endlessly looking up what surely had to be the right answer to 23A in Chambers. But every time the word wasn't there, so I came up with a just about plausible alternative that meant placing a 'W' in the first column. As a result, 1D was one of my last solves, at which point I noted that 23A was not in Chambers - just in Collins.

Anyways, I got there in the end, apart from two parsing queries. I haven't even the slightest idea how to figure out 35D, and though I can see some vague possibilities for 4D, they're not quite leading anywhere. Any help would be much appreciated.

4D - the misprint is in the last word to turn it into an anagram indicator

35D - even with 4D I can't yet parse this!

35d - 'pink' is a euphemism, then go back alphabetically from its synonym.

Wow drxx! I would never have got that in a zillion years! If I had a hat, I would take it off to you... Maybe I'll buy a nice pink one especially!
