Cockie, I'm with you as I cannot see how to complete the first instruction without obliterating (by two different means) what must be in the final grid. Surely "by differentiation" will suffice for the 3rd word of the instruction? If not, I'm mystified as to how to complete this - and I know exactly what is required.

Lovely puzzle - we really enjoyed it. Not a scenario we recognised in any but the loosest sense, but solved thanks to the internet. Not any area of special interest for us, so it presented a nice challenge. Thanks, Crash

No entries here since yesterday at 4pm? Is the site working?

I've nearly got a full grid now, but lots of parsing still missing, and hence so is the message. The NE corner is proving particularly hard- tips please for 6ac, 6dn and 15ac.

Parsing for 2dn, 11ac, 12dn, 18dn, please?

Thanks

2d - first word is a location when corrected and gives the language for the third word (then lose the middle letter for 'suits'/fits in USA)

11a first word has the misprint and is the def - abbrev. of the second word followed by synonym for the last two words.

12d misprint in first word which is (slang?) part of the def - 4 letters for 'in case' excluding its first letter - 'lima' - then 2 letter 'note' + two letters for the country.

6ac - runs is the usual abbr.; Linicro is a place on an island

6dn - first word contains a misprint. Five would more normally be 5

15ac - Latin for as, then a four-letter word for Sikh hair, altered by the penultimate modified word and the last

Can I get a steer on 20a? Otherwise I have full grid but still no idea what is going on, as several correcton letters missing at beginning and end of messages. My circled letters all seem to fit within a set, but otherwise stumped.
Misprint help for 14a and 17a might get me there.
