ethik, 33a def is last two words, third word redundant

I'm still struggling with 33a and I just want to confirm you're saying it's the third word that's redundant? I'm only asking because it's the sort of word that can often be ignored in wordplay anyway, so I wouldn't have initially considered it as one of the likely candidates for removal.

Was the hint for 33d?
I need both 33's too, so more info please!
Agree 'the' is unlikely to be an extra.

33A - 4th word redundant - Defn last 2 words
33D - Defn last 2 words - first four words is 2 letter abbrev

Finally closing in on a full grid, although it sounds like that's really only the start of this puzzle...

Could do with some nudging on any of:

5ac. Council nervous having book for Conservative member empty of pride (7)
14ac. Each tree trunk introduces gum sources (5)
8d. Poor plaintiff raising universal legal right (4)
9d. AI totally accepts sound of Soay accent (9)

If that's too many to ask about, apologies and no worries, I'll take any of them!

sorry chrisremo, I typed overhastily: crates is correct, the 4th word of 33a is redundant, not the 3rd

5a nervous is anagram indicator. Not a straight anagram though. That should give you 9d, if you've looked up Soay.
14a unusual abbreviation for each, preceded by unusual word for tree trunk.

5A - nervous is an anagrind - a substitution clue – has an extra word
14A – normal each after tree trunk
8D – plaintiff with 1 letter raised – has an extra word
9D – Ai surrounded by word for totally – has an extra word
