I also got 27A before 16 and for a long time I was trying to work out why the other explorer was the answer instead (with LO for "bad visibility"), clue was not mint after all lol.

And I was held up for too long near the end because 16 also visited SUEZ and TURIN, and the 2nd letter of 4D was U!

Now I look at it again I have to say 10A was clearly the best clue, because of the last 3 words of the clue :)

Oh wow, that's great! I think, to save time, I should pick a symbol to indicate when I've completely missed something, given the number of times I have to say it ☹

Late starter this weekend but really enjoyed this once the theme emerged. COD for me has to be 6D - what a hoot!

I thought at first the "here" in 10A was a bit vague... how little I knew lol :)

I gave a handful of hints on 10's wording over the course of the thread. It's difficult to judge the amount of subtlety needed to avoid spoilers. 😉

You did give hints so I've only myself to blame. Alas, "subtlety" seems to go right over my head which is probably why, of all the clue types, I find cryptic definitions the most difficult. I tend to do better with 'mechanical' type solving ie first letter of X followed by reversal of Y etc.

Must admit my LOI was 10 - but it somehow seemed perfect closure for the puzzle as a whole.
