I don't understand - the first letter isn't a crosser. I have ?e?l?e, and can guess what the 5th letter is from your hint.

Ah! Very clever. OK, I see what it must be, but I would expect clearer clueing for the first 3 letters for such an obscure word. It lets down the puzzle.

Clever puzzle but 1d seems very poor (if I’ve got it right) - nothing comes up for it on Google, even adding “Australian slang”.

i don't like 1d either, but i think you must have got the wrong answer - i got nearly 250 000 hits on google.

None of those - verb rather than noun. Sort of ‘depend’…
