I don't understand - the first letter isn't a crosser. I have ?e?l?e, and can guess what the 5th letter is from your hint.

Ah! Very clever. OK, I see what it must be, but I would expect clearer clueing for the first 3 letters for such an obscure word. It lets down the puzzle.

Clever puzzle but 1d seems very poor (if I’ve got it right) - nothing comes up for it on Google, even adding “Australian slang”.

Thanks Chris - I assumed that the “bank” was REE(F) - wrong sort of bank! Still don’t like it though!

Stuck in the NW corner. Need some tips...
3d) I have a word for "special matches", in the sense of royal weddings. Apart from that I can't parse the answer.
1d) Also stuck on the first 3-letter segment. What type of bank is it -- monetary, a mound, a line of things...?

Thanks, I think I've got 1d now...a contraction of an English word.
Any tips on solving 3d?
