I have. a completed grid but I’m still puzzled by a few parsings-
19a Fish in bog staggering people
10d King receives birdcalls? The opposite is encouraging
38d Girl raised relief first
Any nudges would be much appreciated.

Hi Numbskull,

19a - The 4 letters that go around the 3 letter "fish" (when the extra letter is put back) is actually a slang word for a public school lavatory!

10d - The word around the single letter "king" (once the extra letter is returned) is the sound birds make and, without that letter, you get the opposite to "getting the bird".

38d - 3 letter "first" minus extra letter + 3 letter "relief" all reversed/raised.

Thanks to Schorley’s encouragement at #18, I have now completed this. In fact, I only had one prime number wrong. Apologies, as these comments should have been on thread for Listener 4699.

Definitely one of the easiest (well I managed to finish). Sad that my nation went 17 nil down before they started to play. Otherwise a very satisfactory weekend!

Pretty smooth solving on this one although despite Jack Aubrey’s explanation on wordplay for 17a I still don’t get how the incoming 3rd letter follows from the wordplay?
Anyway chuffed to see my name come out the hat for 4697. Only thing spoiled the day was the rugby result...

Hi MarshyjM, congrats on winning:-)

17a - the extra letter would be the second in the original word which is then the same but for two letter "saint" being replaced by single letter "Lord" (that's the 3rd letter of the answer, not the more natural looking 4th)
