Yes I went down that route too for a while. There are a few red herrings in this puzzle and of course I fell for them all!

Got the clues all they extra letters 18, 12 yadada. But how do I google the thematic material in idiot-proof form?

I've completed this, with one rather annoying exception. Having solved 2 of the normal clues - after completing the end game - the first one refuses to yield. Is it possible to provide a nudge without revealing too much to others who have yet to tackle this?

It's not essential for completion but it is irritating given I know what I'm looking for!

Granama1, this one is indeed a stinker. The first word of the answer is defined as "a dear" in Chambers - perhaps because said dear brings great happiness. "newly made Lord" will give you the final four letters.

Struggling here. Cant find anything which looks remotely likely for 25 despite having 3 or 4 crossers though I cant parse 14 down either. 2 down and 39 across are equally mysterious. Any gentle nudge appreciated. Merry Christmas y'all🎅
