Stuck on a couple in the first round... any clues/hints in the right direction?

Answer is two words – one starting with “C” and one with “R” (in either order):

Custer ran off? Cold feet perhaps (6,3)

Reversing bike bell operatically (4,5)

Brilliant - thanks, Quisling.

That anagram solver is v useful to have to hand - if only I'd seen it earlier!

Section A no 8.
The answer is 2 words, one beginning with C and one with R in either order.

Better letter ( 8, 9 )

Any ideas?

Returning to this after resting my mind over the New Year...

Among several remaining questions, does anyone have any more thoughts on the following clue under the heading "Whatever Next":

"Alpha and Omega, t and e."

The answer will be the third term in this sequence. My thoughts so far are that it may refer to Revelation 22 ("I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last."), but I can see no further...
