Yes it is. My assumption is that it will be an eight-letter place name beginning with "J".

It's too open a question. J and O ought to figure, as should 8 letters. But I'm not sure you can satisfy all three . . .

https://britishplacenames.uk/alphabetical/J#:~:text=British%20Place%20Names%20Beginning%20with%20J.%20Jack%20Bell%27s,Green.%20Jack%20Green%27s%20Copse.%20Jack%20Hayes.%20Jack%20Hill.

If the letter count is irrelevant then Jevington or Johnshaven, but that's all I can offer

Quiztime, I don’t know if Derby works. It’s the premier horse race on the Flat, and it’s a bowler hat. Just a thought.

Jerviswood also works for the other one, up to a point

Thanks - I couldn't find an 8-letter UK place name beginning with J and containing v either! And I can't think why the setter would pick such a random sequence with Grays standing out as a slightly odd place name? Wondered about ABC Murders or something along those lines?

I had Derby for the hat as well...

Grays, Hexham and Ipswich are all towns, and the only town in England beginning with J is Jarrow. Widening to the UK, adds in Jedburgh and Johnstone, which makes Jedburgh the favourite for me.

Hi, I too am missing the 4th in the Grays, Hexham, Ipswich sequence - suggestion of Jedburgh seems reasonable. Also missing the next in a sequence E, ON, SUP, MICH. This looks like reference to the Great Lakes, but why in this order, & why trimmed in this fashion. I note E could be start or end of ERIE - and ON could be from ONTARIO or HURON - or maybe it is not Great Lakes at all !!

regorr - looks like the Great Lakes to me. One letter from one, two letters from the next, etc.
