It would have been helpful to know why you thought it was unsatisfactory, in the absence of any other suggestions. Never mind. I hope you enjoy the sparkling wine!

You didn't comment when noswarps queried the other question so no idea what I have done. Not the response I would expect to get from this site

An alternative to Derby could be Ascot, as it's a flat cap, as well as the flat meeting with all the hats of various shapes. I think Derby is a slightly better answer, though.

Any ideas for the question that follows the Flat hat one? Another sports answer: "Can't solve this one!" (7).

The only suggestion I have for "Can't solve this one" is "snooker", but I am not convinced as it is possible to escape (= solve) a snooker.

That was my thought too - like the race card answer, I felt there could be something better, but nothing has bubbled up. As an aside, I guess people know the setter, John Graham, is Araucaria's brother?

For Can't solve this one, think cricket!

Still looking for a better connection for Grays, Hexham, Ipswich than an incremental letter, consecutive starter sequence....

I think rest cure is preferable to race card as clue is to do with health. I'm more puzzled by Rough ocean sailor needs your introduction, James. Any thoughts?
