Malone - the more posts on a thread, the less likely someone is to read the initial post carefully. I would suggest the title of the thread be:

GENTLE HINTS - no discussion of the theme (please!)

If that doesn't work, probably nothing will...

Thanks, Buzzb - that seems a good idea for next week.
I probably expected people to be more vigilant. careful as I think Norah (Admin) mentioned that she'd remove misplaced comments on the theme!

The temptation is very strong Malone, believe me. However, I think it was in the now defunct Answers thread that I threatened to delete anything other than a direct question asking for an answer to a crossword.

To be honest, I don’t feel qualified to delete comments about the theme because I don’t understand the first thing about the Listener Crossword, I depend on my helpful band of elves to point me in the right direction on that one.

Please Miss, can I be one of your elves?
I’ve run out of plasticine and need bigger pins.

Thanks, Norah. I can see your dilemma - but I was persevering with the attempt to keep the thematic stuff in one place (a consideration when there are two Listener threads) as well as keeping it out of the Gentle Hints thread.

PS I certainly wouldn't want any comments deleted, I'd just like them to have been in the other place.

PPS What is the hourly rate for elves these days?

All done and dusted, but I can't get a wood-worker out of letters 3 & 4 of 15dn, plus the extra letter.

You need to look for an American spelling of a wood-working tool in letters 2, 3 and 4.

What about a hints (no answers) to clues thread and a hints (no direct spoilers) to theme thread? Just a thought.
