I'm struggling with the NW corner. Can anyone confirm whether the 4th letter of 10a is M and the last letter of 1a H?

Thrash, the person you’re referring to only has six letters in surname. Presumably there should be seven?

Dylan, if 2 letters add up to 27 the result is? Quite why it's been done that way I don't know yet.

Got the author, got the title, understand the link with the extra words...up to a point. Have seen the subject IRL quite often but haven't got anything shaded yet.
