Could someone help me parse 8 down please.

Def is last two words

First two words give you the first three letters (Chambers is your friend) and then you have a rope with the last letter “cut”

I'll have to find that rogue non-clash.

I'm really struggling to break into the NE section, can I have a nudge to 5a please.

Lumen, it's usual single letter abbreviation for "posh" + anagram of thug, in a synonym for what you get after removing a letter from the penultimate word. Decks is a container indicator.

So far the added letter clashes give me gibberish!

Loge - I struggled with the clashes for ages as I made two different mistakes so suggest you double-check you are doing the addition right as prescribed in the preamble.

I also had 10a wrong which didn’t help!
