In 28 "they'll defend against blackouts" is the definition, Lumen.

Grinding along cold solving before entering anything (again).
I have a suitable answer for the definition in 22a 'Main...' but cannot nail the extra letter or complete parsing. It has 'papers' in and a single letter for academician but, of course I could have a wrong answer.
Similar problem with 10a 'Delightfully....' only in this case I appear to have an extra 'a' in the answer rather than in the clue.
In 19d am I correct in thinking that the result is worn higher than a costume?

Thanks. (Given the comments about the end game I'm close to binning this one but I'll give it one more push).

Granama

22 I think the "consideration" here is muse with the U extra. Combine that with the papers and single letter abbreviation and it should fall into place.

10 I don't know what you've got but the extra letter is in the word for "atmosphere" and is not an A

19 Not sure what you mean but it's more like a skirt, I think

I hope my earlier reservations about the endgame didn't put you off - my problems were entirely of my own making because I can't read properly!

Thanks Loge, for 22 I'd decided it was either 'u' or 'i' mainly because I was a bit ? about muse. LOL, I now have the final five letters of the second set and can only think of one obvious word and that doesn't make much sense!
For 10a I have 1,5 and can make it work if the 'primarily's are jumbled but there's no jumble indicator.
19d - thanks. Got it. No wonder I couldn't get sunhat to work! (:o)

On we go!

There's no need to jumble the "primarily" bits. I suspect you're including the A from "and" but this is just a link word and doesn't contribute any letters to the answer.

Isn’t 10a 3,3?
And the extra comes from ‘very’?

Thanks again Loge. Now I have the last 5 letters of the first set and another potential word that looks unfamiliar! However, I think I have filled the SE quarter but the unclued looks a bit odd so either my 34a entry is wrong or the unclued is another odd word.

(Or there's some rubbing out to do!).

No, Lumen, Granama is right: it's 1,5. "Very" doesn't provide the extra letter - it contributes to the answer as a single letter abbreviation.

Oh dear. Ok I 10a now. Please can I get an idea on 1a.
Surely that will get me started, I now have 28 solutions and an empty grid!

Lumen, I'm in the same boat. I have started to enter some solutions in the lower half but have hit a brick wall. I may have to scrub them and start again.
Re 1a That's another of my missings. I'd assumed the medical drama was a TV thing (2 letters) but can't think of a repeat other than bis.
I'm stuck on 32a now which looks like it should be obvious but my solutions don't seem to parse/match potential crossers.
