Well, I couldn't let it lie! Sorted the words as far as I had them, from their order in the grid, worked out my likely missing couple of letters, reversed parsed my awkward clues and finished the end game. Phew!

It may have been mentioned earlier but I've found the additional sequence with and without the moved letter.

The 10 cells raised a smile - quite a change of genre. šŸ˜Š

Have completed this. Unsure about the ordering of the second set. Would appreciate a hint to the parsing of 14 please.

14 - A word for 'happy' (but not the last letter) plus a 2 letter synonym for 'at' (all reversed) with the residue of the vacated word added - one of these letters is extra.

Once again I have to thank all you wonderful people for getting me through this puzzle. I was quite resigned to the idea of giving it up. Far too much cold solving needed, in my opinion. But as always a degree of satisfaction when it all comes out.

drxx, loge - Iā€™m still slightly confused by the second set but now seem to be in a minority of one so must be thinking about it wrong.

Looking at the various sources, I thought the order of the second set starts 13 but the second spare letter is in the 4th clue of the set rather than the third so that was confusing me.

The second set is one of the few found in multiple references on the internet. Most sources suggest a sequence odd odd odd even even even (ascending) which is what I have. There may be variation from this on one or two sites which is where the confusion arises. As said earlier these may be typos.
