I can see the definition for 31 but don’t see how the clue works.

jeg, it's a five-letter informal word for something fresh, or recent, with the first letter moved to the right. The second letter (pre-moving) is the extra one. Then the usual abbreviation for that is.

Jeg - make sure you’ve checked both spelling possibilities, for the satisfaction of parsing as well as other reasons.

22a: 1st word is def. 4-letter synonym of consideration containing word for papers followed by academician. Extra letter is in the synonym

27: The word for 'entertainment' is common enough but is not typically used that way. It's last letter is the extra. A+G is inserted

31: 5-letter word for something fresh - first letter is moved to the right, second letter is the extra + common abbreviation at the end

27 - unusual word for entertainment, five letters, perhaps as in ‘good - …’

(From the other thread) Cockie, go carefully through the columns and you will find a proper noun. Then do the same for the rows and you'll find another. Making a total of 10 cells, these belong together.

thanks hw7 and buzzb - 22 is sorted. re 27, if the entertainment is 5 letters, and its "mostly", and ag is inserted that suggests i have a 6 letter word, but with no letter extra. am i thinking about the wordplay wrongly here?

‘An entertainment’ maps to ‘A word-starting-with-consonant’…
