You must be American too, geeker. I know 12d from Monty Python. 😉

Hi Everyone,

I really enjoyed this and thought the clue surfaces were, on the whole, of a much higher standard than usual, with 11a being a prime example.

Particularly liked 15a and 18d with the latter being the first time I've ever seen that Japanese reference in an Everyman.

Thanks to Everyman for a fun and witty puzzle:-)

PS - I love that we have so many overseas solvers join in our friendly Everyman and Prize blogs 😃

Brendan, that Japanese ref. in 18 is what earned it COD for me. Very nice.

Here's another Brendan. I've met a few wild Australians but I struggled to find 2D. Otherwise this seemed a breeze, but maybe starting to do the daily cryptic & weekly Prize has sharpened me up. Thanks again for the blog, always a pleasure to read.

Hi Geeker, Hi Paul,

I can't recall ever seeing that 2d anagram before which really surprises me.

This Everyman definitely seems like like a step up in quality:-)

2 is indeed an excellent anagram, but I have previously seen it. Can't say when/where, but it's sufficiently memorable to have registered.

I'm sure you're right Geeker and it's just my memory, or lack of, that's the problem.

Jono is usually very good at finding out when and if clues have been seen before.

Brendan, you can google the string "saturnalia site:fifteensquared.net"

Not a rare clue. It was in the FT as recently as June 24 of this year. Guardian-wise, it was even in a Rufus (2009)! The Araucaria from 2010 was not this specific anagram.

OMG!! So if you take an answer, say "eternal" and follow it with "site:fifteensquared.net" you get all the times it previously appeared.

That's amazing, many thanks Geeker:-)
