Hi Peejayemm,

It's the actors that have two pairs.

Thanks Brendan. As usual, as soon as I'd posted I found the elusive actor. Not that elusive actually but had me staring for a while!

Thanks tatters, I had taken that letter out of 30d, which now perplexes me, but at least I now understand 31d.

Gitto,

30d - I know it doesn't look like it but the first word is thematic

Double thanks tatters, I now see the literary pair. Some pretty obscure relationships and names in this - I wouldn't have had a chance (i.e. 0%) without google.

Pedant alert! I would describe the solution to 12 down as "the penultimate line of elf"

Good puzzle and the PDM was way too long in coming - a couple of pretty obvious pointers when you know what's happening.

Having spotted the theme early on, I've got a full grid and all the names. Can anyone explain the parsing of 33dn?

Thanks, rickye (post 39). I think your interpretation of the puzzle title is correct: the relationship of the members of each thematic pair could appear as "one across" in a simple family tree.
(Another pedant alert. In 31ac "Brigadoon" is a [ b ]mythical[ /b ] village in Scotland. A better choice of musical would have been "Hamilton" — it's a town very close to Muttergut!)
