I have a full grid, the message and the four pairs of names. I have finally twigged the changes to the words (1d should have alerted me much earlier) and understand the relationship of the pairs. I don't have a scooby what the six letter adjective is. Perhaps a bit of therapeutic gardening will make the final piece fall into place.

If you've worked out how the words in the clues change, the adjective describes the words that have changed...

Planks. If you have understood the linguistic changes google the language starting lower case!

I think I’ve convinced myself.

I have established a pair of names from each domain. Is the fourth pair from acting, literature or mythology?

Once I deleted the N (thanks to Loge) things started to gel. I have 3 pairs, 2 from acting and 1 from mythology that together comprise 38 cells, but I'll be damned if I can see the one from literature. I have also manged to parse every clue apart from 13a and 31d which I am also finding slightly annoying. For me, this is another listener where grid staring comprises 70%+ of the solve time.
