Ah, thanks Brendan. I thought it worked as 'ruler'

Waiting, once again, for the PDM. I know the person and the relevant parts of the normal clues, but what to do with it all currently eludes me.

Please explain the thematic hint. I have its letters and I suspect I need an anagram of them. I also know the author and their works. I think part of the contrivance could be reality.

Like bananabean, I have the letters from the plain clues but can't seem to form them into a hint. However in addition I can't see who the author is and don't understand the instruction formed by the extra letters. Could someone give me a nudge?

Tony at 24: I came to the same conclusion and spent ages trying to rearrange the first letters of the six plain clues into the name of a Norwegian playwright and a work that contains a quotation about the two new words. It's a total red herring.

Nothing relevant came up on Page 1 of the results of a search for "[the two new words] + quotation" except our Scandinavian friend. I should have looked at Page 2 MUCH earlier!

All fair and above board but I found this rather a slog, I'm afraid.

Please give me a hint to the first of the two new words. I know its length.

Banana bean- the letters from the six normal clues can be rearranged to give a synonym of the first word

I had guessed that a synonym for the second word was verity but is that wrong?
