Hi Lucertola,

I wondered about that but Chambers only gives it as hyphenated.

24a is my favourite clue, he was aptly named and certainly at the very Top in his sport. Liked the, in my view slightly Pauline, reference to his activities off the pitch. Many stories of him and Miss World. They even named an international airport after him.

Hi Johnny,

It was a cheeky reference by Picaroon to the "off the pitch" activities of 24a, not to mention the "scored manually" of 8a 😃

Morning. I'm enjoying this and it's a very clever theme mixing so many different topics all linked to "scoring". But now I'm stuck. I seem to have a gaping top right corner. Could I get a hint for 11a, might help open up that section. Thank you!

Hi Abicoop,

I'm glad you're enjoying it, there are a lot of clever and witty elements:-)

11a - 6 letter "sweet" (as part of a meal) + 4 letter "enjoy" - definition is "scent".

Brilliant, thanks. Maybe I should have made a second cup of coffee, I don't know why I didn't get that.

Very tricky I thought but rather good. Wordplay for 22d still eluding me. Does ‘at home‘ indicate the word play is in French? I can see a drink but not butter. The off-pitch reference in 24a went straight over my head!

The first three letters aren't in his home language. Think of the animal and what it does.

Hi Jono,

22d - the "drink" is in the "home" language of the "scorer".
