Been dabbling all day in between DIY and other nonsense. Just finished thanks to many subtle nudges from all you good fora people. FOI was 1a which is rare for me. Enjoyed many of the clues so agree that this was a gem. I will not rise to the COYG bait over 27a. (COYS). (I think Brendan is a Hammer, if so thanks to both dropping points). Really enjoyed reading the posts, it's not so bad arriving late and following others' thought processes and PDMs. So thanks and have a good week.

Probably a fair result, Brendan, don't you think? Hi Yevrah, enjoy the game this evening.

Hi Teewens,

I'm afraid the wounds are still a bit too fresh for an impartial assessment 😢

From the mushroom to the note collection....a journey and a half. Some easy clues but learnt plenty today. Didn’t know she was from Glasgow, never heard of the foundation, the salmon, or the screech....the film for 1a sounds worth a watch maybe ??

I always thought the mushroom was spelt with 2is but got it from the wordplay.

As usual late to the party but 27a is driving me mad. Only that and 23d to get.

If I managed to get 23d and 27a just fell into place. Great everyman. One of my favourites and being a Scot of a certain age 2d must be my COD. Thanks for all the clues.

2d was a new word for me but I worked it out easily as I had the U and knew the singer.
I saw her live when she'd only just started out and was the supporting act to Gene Pitney.
