This is probably one of my favourite Everyman crosswords. It's not that easy but there is just so much to like.

FOI was 1a followed by 7d (which I recommend as a way in if you're stuck).

The only one I had trouble parsing was 4d but, after a long stare, I finally saw what was going on.

If you do get stuck there are two long anagrams in the acrosses and a long anagram and a hidden in the downs.

COD - I was writing down my favourite clues as I went along and, by the end, I just had so many contenders!!

First I had 9a for its wonderful use of contemporary slang.

Then I thought it should perhaps be 8a which has such a great surface reading.

But that would mean overlooking the great 23a and 25a, not to mention the excellent Spoonerism at 14d!

However, my COD is the fantastic 2d - "Hour of anticipation: Glaswegian singer to turn up and screech" (7) - Well 😉 Do you agree?

Thanks to Everyman for a truly enjoyable puzzle.

We've had new members joining our friendly Everyman blog every week since the start of the new year, so let's keep that trend going.

Remember, if you get stuck, help is only a click away.

Stay safe:-)

Thanks Brendan. I enjoyed this one too.

The only clue I haven't solved is in fact the aforementioned 2d. I would appreciate a hint.

I'm obviously on the setters' wavelengths this weekend, a second completed fairly quickly and without any help from friends here. FOI 9A, LOI & COD 14D so I'm not agreeing with Brendan on the final choice, but I do agree that several others were string contenders.

I can't see rhymes or a theme, but a lovely workout even if I found it easier than usual.

Best wishes to all for a good Sunday

Petercarlington, I think the last word of the clue is a bit unfair, it might help a couple of ways to think of a shout instead?

Hi Luko,

I agree, that Spoonerism at 14d is just great and any other week I could easily have made it a COD.

Hi Peter,

2d - 3 letters for "hour of anticipation" then 4 letter "Glaswegian singer" all reversed/"to turn up" - definition is "screech".

Yes this was a nice example of the Everyman. Accessible and enjoyable. I enjoyed some of the simple ones as nice examples of their type eg 19a, 26a and the spoonerism 14d.
Can anyone help with the parsing of 25a? I don't get the Lichtenstein bit.
