Hi Tim,

25a - First 2 letters are "then" + A (from the clue) + 3 and 3 from "period in Lichtenstein's career" - definition is "undemanding diversion".

If you Google (Roy) Lichtenstein you'll immediately see where the last 2 three letter words come from:-)

Brendan, I agree totally with your first post. My FOI was 6D followed by the cheesy but really fun 9A which made me think of Ali G. My PLOI and LOI were 21A and 18D. I had the answer pencilled in for 21A for ages but couldn’t figure out the smoked salmon reference, which I had to google - first time I’ve ever seen the word.

This is the first time I have enjoyed every single clue, including the easy 26A, given the fame of the athlete.

A fabulous Everyman - my COD is shared between 23 and 14.

Enjoyed this one, over all too soon. I also didn’t know the salmon and got caught up with Lichtenstein. No rhymes this week, looked hard for something and the best I can come up with is the last words of 1a and 27a make a little expression if you put ‘and’ in the middle 😉

8d - Believe it or not, it's just a straight anagram/"wandering" - definition is from tree onwards.

Cosmo123 - Repunctuate the clue as
Wandering "passed a palm"...,tree led to these in a story.
