Thanks for the hint, I found the film by googling lists of adventure films from the 80s, and the protagonist leapt out to me from there. I’m now sure of 44 and 33, and I presume I have the quarry, in this case not described religiously as it sometimes is? Finally understand the title at least, although I initially anagrammed only Head-start, which sent me some earlier films (but including the right actor!).

Those other films are not as unrelated as you might think. Two of the non-human characters from the one are referenced in the other.

The cross of five cells centred on ‘40’ either provide the subtlest Easter Egg in crossword history, or, sadly but probably, a pure coincidence.

At the risk of enraging the purists, I'm still struggling with finding a pathway in which the successful hunter (7, 5, he chose wisely) is spelled out by resolving the clashes.

I = Row 1 Column 12 (the lettered top row cell
N = ?
D / S = Row 4 Column14
I / A = Row 5 Column 12
A = Row 6 Column 5 (barred off cell 5th letter)
N / R = Row 5 Column 4
A / L Row 7 Column 7= ?
J= Row 7 Column 11 (barred off cell 8th letter)
O / G = Row 7 Column 3
N = ?
E = ?
S = ?

Can anybody tell me where I'm going wrong? My other clash is in PECTIN / HEED that is I/E.

You may have mislaid the R/N clash in 23/18.

Reading the alternate options of the above down the page is thematic.

...and with apologies, you’ve hyperspaced your spelling of the more recent hunter’s name.

His fifth letter is the SE of the barred cells, not the NW. The second (out of three, coincidentally) N’s is 28.

HTH.

Apologies if this has already been asked..

I've got a full grid bar 44a and 33d where I can see two words that could go in (not least because I've ruled out everywhere else in my search for the Holy ......) but neither answer seems to bear any relation to their clue - help!

Brendan, have a look at Post 18 from Zabadak, which explains why those clues have no actual answer, It's probably best to treat those two entries as unclued, derivable only from the film hinted at strongly in the most recent posts.

Rather annoyingly I had the correct film and therefore the right answers for 33 and 44, However, Elgin had got me hook, line and sinker with Sir Galahad, particularly as it was traced via a series of kinghts moves. At least my 6 unused letters now fit perfectly into the two unclued entries. Also spent a wasteful hour or so watching clips from Monty Python and the holy grail - but I enjoyed that. Now for the 5 pesky cells to highlight...........

Turast - you have the answer now but for more info, you jump via knights move in chess as that is thematic

HW7 - you’ve lost me - what’s the Easter Egg at 40?
