Preamble isn't encouraging but dive in and you will make speedy progress.

Fairly straightforward grid fill, but I think I must have fallen into a carefully-laid trap, as I find myself with an embarras de richesse when it comes to the final highlighting.

Absolutely, don’t be put off by prea mble. I’m a fairly mediocre Listener solver, but there are plenty of easyish clues and after less than hour I saw the theme. (Still plenty to do!)

Agreed, not as scary as it looks. I have just one final hurdle to overcome; I’ve no idea about the two “negotiated” thematic items. I am pretty certain which clues are affected, but haven’t a scooby what’s going on here. A fresh look tomorrow may help...

Agreed, the preamble seems daunting at first, but as others have commented, most of the clues are not difficult by Listener standards. I have just a few gaps in the grid; they might be standard clues or ones involving clashes. I have the theme, and even the path to get the modern hunter's name. From the preamble, and the entries at 33 and 44 I hope to reverse engineer the missing clashes.

Seem to be in the same place as some others.

Found it a more challenging cluing style but once I realised there were a couple of hiddens in plain sight and a few of those anagrams where you have to add something to the answer it became easier.

Getting the “reporter” also helped!

Still have the two clues outstanding with the thematic items “negotiated by” the “modern hunter” as not sure what that means yet and I also seem to have options for the final highlighting which doesn’t feel quite right.

Will look with fresh eyes later.
