Thanks, Granama/Tatters - I felt like it had to be that but only looked at ‘para’ in The Chambers app, and twice managed to miss ‘para-‘ as a separate prefix entry.

Thanks Quiz...not a use of stale I've seen before but it gives me a missing letter for the successful hunter. Now for 'join the dots'.....

Thanks to loge for your earlier post. I never would have gotten 25 without it. I was rather happy to get 22 without any help other than google maps though. This just leaves 14 for me. I gather there is a clash. Is it with 3D?

It is indeed, MPRS. It's a convoluted clue and now it took me a while to remember how I parsed it!

I think this puzzle has one of the best red herrings I have seen in a long time. I take my hat off to Elgin - brilliant construction, clever puzzle, just the right amount of difficulty (for me anyway!)

So the definition is setter as in a substance used to set jam. If the third letter in 3 is changed to “i” you do get a Scottish word (of course- have to make quota.) Now to the parsing. Does anyone have a hint?

Agree Planks, thought it was first class.

Thanks Elgin.

Was the right level of challenge but knowing some of Elgin’s others and how approachable the cluing was here, I wonder if originally there was going to be some carte blanche elements to this and the “reporter” letters would have been used as a way in but it was tweaked to make a bit more manageable during the editing process.

Would have been a really tough challenge then.

Hope there’s a setters blog in due course as would be really interested in finding out more about the process.
