Like Prospero I too miss Hugh's monthly email. The prize does exist, I won it in the month I turned 70 thus giving me the title for my autobiography, should I ever write it, "From Eleven Plus Failure to Genius in Sixty Years - The Memoirs of a Slow Learner."

Good to know, mayfly ... I thought at this late stage you might be hamish/soup with his valedictory comments, but we shall have to look forward to those ...

Hi Can anyone give me hints for 4d and 11across. They are my last one. The messages on this have been really helpful!

hkwstuck,
4d. Original is a double definition. Name of a particular river in NE England.
11a. Def. is 'types of plant'. R in that for which East Anglia is well-known.

hkw - 4d is a double definition, a river and a verb for standing the test of time - shift 4. 11a - a type of plant - end of cultivar in part of E Anglia, shift 4 in the other direction.
