btw is anyone still receiving Hugh's monthly emails? I used to get them but no more - and my spam filter lets everything else through ... used to enjoy hearing that someone in Australia had got in first, before it was published here. (I even think I submitted first one month ...) And has anyone ever won this mythical prize? - which I imagine is suspended for the moment.

24d - first 4 words = definition. Next four give you 2 central letters surrounded by (provides cover) German (serving double purpose) for also.

Great fun and enjoyably taxing, particularly when having to “reverse engineer” some of the transforms. Only one genuine puzzle remains. Pendragon @28: why does “her” introduce “a gender element” when, presumably, “his” would not?
