Eugene... for 42a you’re correct, three letter word for see (it’s in Bradford’s but not Chambers) around m. For 46a, a 4 letter old word for give, around (boxes) an archaic sixpence, minus the first T. Last two words are the definition
I'm still stuck on 21, 30 and 33. I saw merenz's post at #67 for 30 about taking an L out of a word. I presume from the wordplay that it is one of two Ls but I cannot 'crack' it.
21 def is the first word. It has a letter added.
30 def is the last three words. Again it has a letter added.
33 def is the first three words and once more has a letter added.
None of the added letters is 'l'.
Sorry ukridge - with regard to 30 an 'l' needs to be removed from a short word for an old measure of cloth, surrounded by a four letter word for crack, in the unaltered version.
son1ofrover1 thank you. 21 is rather obvious really. Staring too long. As I say though for 30 I am pretty sure of the wordplay but just can't get the right word for 'crack' (please correct me if that is not the word I should remove an L from). Could you give me a hint as to what meaning of crack I should be looking for? For 33 I have no crosschecking letters at all even though I have solved all the crossing clues. Do none of the crossing clues feature in 33 or have I made a mistake?
