Would still be interested to know where the information about discontinuation has come from?

All setters have been notified to that effect by the EV editor.

I see, thanks Spoffy. That's worrying, as it looks as if the Telegraph is serious about this.

Ditto to all of the above. I, too, only buy the Telegraph on a Sunday for the EV. It looks like sales will be seriously affected if it is pulled.

I too will stop buying the paper as EV is now my only reason for purchase. If it is merely a cost cutting exercise rather than mere dumbing down surely we would all be happy to forgo a prize.
I've written to 'Telegraph Puzzles' @ FREEPOST LON 29565, Chatham Kent ME4 4ZG to register my dismay.

I have every sympathy with the sentiments expressed but doubt if any campaign would be effective. Print newspapers are struggling and trying to work out business models that can allow them to survive.

I do AZED, the Listener and EV. The first is available free online; for the second I buy the Paper (I'd do so anyway); for the third I pay an annual subscription for crosswords only (I don't like the Paper). I thought that the Telegraph had the best model of the three, but evidently not. If EV goes I cancel my subscription.

Going forward I'd really welcome any advice on the best way of getting my fix of crosswords at this level - I'm a second division solver but enjoy having a bash. I'm prepared to pay and suspect that we have a community that is sufficiently well-off to keep this art form going. I hope so.

It's an aside but I am far more concerned about the fate of local newspapers. Hope this wider view causes no offence.

I also will cancel my subscription if EV goes. It is only reason I buy the paper.

I only buy the newspaper for the EV, so will switch to Sunday Times if it goes.

I too will cancel my subscription if EV goes. I've been doing it every week for years but never submit the solution. It's just an excellent challenge.
