Any hint on 6? I think I know the extra word, but cannot sort the original answer. Thanks.

t's curious how we find different sections easy. I've completed the bottom half, but the NW corner is fairly empty. I'd be interested, tatters, in 1ac, and, anyone, in 1d or 17ac

Snap, Dylan. I've completed most of it bar the NW corner which, with the exception of 4d, is looking very bare.

17a is an old (and obscure, to me) word for shoot (3 letters) + a word for nomad. Def. is the last 3 words.

Dylan, 1d is normal -- and def is obs. rewards and wp is usual abbrev for island + 3-word synonym for native inside 4-letter (large) battles.

1d. Def is an old word for rewards. Abb. for island + synonym for 'native', all in a word for 'battles'.

For 17a I can find anywhere that gives the answer as a synonym for "journeyman" - any ideas where to look?
