Quiz - my post #38 - should have said 'with waves' not 'waves' - so it is indeed an adjective....

Quisling and crates - thank you both. In hindsight, an odd one to be the last one in. Really enjoyed this one. RIP Waterloo.

A final thought on this puzzle: in a couple of checked cells, I entered a character that may represent either a number or a letter. I wonder which one should really be entered. Depends on one's handwriting whether one distinguishes between the two.

Think i know what you mean by number/letter combinations...can't believe that they will even judge this - something that could represent either must be ok....

The letter is a symbol that can represent the number, but not vice versa. So I think entering the letter has to be right, even if it doesn't look quite like the number in one's handwriting or font.

Hi all. Unfortunately my PC died yesterday, but I have managed to get back on line. I could do with a mighty shove with helping with 39A - which rather worries me as no one else seems to be struggling with it. Am I right that I need symbol for the last two letters?

Gitto, no symbols in 39a, just letters. Definition is at the start of the clue.

lexawkward, I have the answer, but the only way I can think of answering it as 3 consecutive letters that also appear in capitals in the preamble - and that seems a little contrived to me
