So eventually got there today after nagging away on and off with a complete grid and all the clever stuff at the end. Truly brilliant and equally in awe of you regular solvers esp Malone who did this on one day! I’m just left with 1 letter in 1a sho?t please. Any hints or just straight tell please! Thanks - and I too enjoy reading the regular posts on the inquisitor on this forum.

Aslac, thanks for your nice comments. I'm sure there are quite a few Forum members who solved this on day one.

Re 1 Across - the S is the last letter of 'lights', (close to lights) then you need a four letter word that could mean 'beep'. Hope that helps. The final word could mean 'go on red' (as in go through the traffic lights...)
