Nikki, we're not supposed to give direct answers on this forum. I have to go to Answerbank for that! but they're not very good on the Genius puzzles.

Thanks, Prospero. The penny finally dropped on 13A. It was what I had originally thought of as an answer, but I couldn't find it or the pairing. And I was trying to start 20A with AC. All done now for another month.

I presume 22a is a themed clue even though the partner and the pairing are identical, which leaves me with one more normal clue to find apart from14a, 26a, 29a, id, 5d and 16d. Any hints on 17a, 21a, 13d, 18d, 24d and 25d would be most welcome.

18d is normal. Definition is the last 4 words.

Thanks for those hints. Unfortunately no lights are flahing in my brain.
"Pet on the way" seems as cryptic as the rest of the clue. Is 17 across the title of an opera, or an opera company?
I'm beginning to wonder if my 24 and 28 entries are correct.
For 24 I have the surname of a very well known comedian ; and for 28 a citric fruit. Ah, does 28a end in R?

for 17, if you have the crossers, there are only 2 pairings I can see and Pinky is not one of them ... as indicated earlier, it's a (vague) word for affair with two two-letter deductions,
