Hi Waggers, thanks for that. I realized what you meant about a millisecond after I hit 'post' (isn't it always the way!?).

I give up. Would appreciate some strong hints for:
23a
21d
22d
14d (I get that it’s a football club but don’t know much about football)
29a
26d

Something’s gone wrong with my head today — or maybe it’s the puzzle.
Thanks

Hi catcharmer!
21a - straight clue is ‘made a high-tech connection’. Broadcaster with power - a powerful broadcaster - think Merdoch but also then include the ‘P’ for power on the end. Leading journalist - who heads up a newspaper? Go for an abbreviated version. Ok that still might be a bit convoluted!! Hope it helps!

22d - straight clue is ‘needing to be cut’. Joke’s non-starter is a 3 letter synonym for joke but drop the 1st letter (non starter). Cry of dismay heard - ‘heard’ indicates it’s a different spelling in the answer - it sounds like a 4 letter word for cry of dismay (begins with M - think about grass being uncut!!)
