Hi Dodgie!
10A -- After many hours of deliberation (as mentioned), I worked out that cheques sounds like a certain East European nation, and the setter was telling us to look for a homophone with 'auditor'. In other words, horrible clue.
7D Includes northern dialect for home (rather than the more usual nin) within an abbreviation of tees. In other words, horrible clue.
22D Pun with first letter lopped off, followed by homophone of moan, meaning long grass. In other words, horrible clue.
Oh, and although you don't mention it, I thought 14D was a horrible clue, too!
Of course, the typo in 4A didn't help ... but I still probably would have floundered!

I'm pleased we agree on the parsing, Phil but I didn't think the clues were 'horrible' :-) just a bit frustrated I took so long.

I thought it a very clever, very fair puzzle...… one or two of the parsings were not as easy as the others, but I enjoy a bit of a tussle!

The way I gauge it is the amount of head-slapping once the clues are in place (whether through cheating, as this week, or eventual parsing). There wasn't much of that this week -- instead, I was left shaking my head in annoyance rather than admiration at least half a dozen times.

I wonder if the Everyman setter is looking in ? Would like confirmation of a misprint in 4d (change not charge ?) or maybe I've just lost the plot :)

I, too, assumed that "charge " in 4d was a misprint…...

I can only see the name of that dog in Eastenders.
(And I can’t see a 4d? )
