Thanks once again unclued. Everything is now sorted, apart from the penultimate line in the preamble on how to submit the entry. My unclued letters spell out gobbledygook. Excluding doubles and trebles they spell “LACSEOEWR”. What am I missing?

Xij, you have the correct letters. The second word is case.

I’d thought of that but didn’t see the anagram, probably because of the lack of them in the clues. So, yet again, thanks unclued. Now back to housework, which has had a three day break.

If anyone is still following this thread I would very much appreciate hints with 49 and 50. I have a full grid but feel I could have made mistakes filling in the grid as unless there are 4 unfilled cells in the last row I will only have 2 unfilled cells.

Hi Casanova. 49 and 50 share two letters in the grid fill. These two letters are both in the bottom row and form part of the surname.

Have you already filled in two of the gaps to complete the surname? (Columns 9 and 11). There will be two blank cells remaining to allow for gaps between the author’s initials

Thank you Merenz. I had made a mistake as I didn’t (don’t) understand the parsing of 43

There were a number of solutions it took me a while to parse. A really tough crossword I thought, but very satisfactory too.

For 43, scars is the definition, the first R is extra, dubious word is UR and elaborate lyric is ODE

Many thanks to you all for the help so far. However, I am still struggling with 22, 23, 27 and 35. Any hints?
