Oh, I see now that what I had doesn't work anyway, for the reason you've already explained!

I'm done except for 1 letter in 3 down answers--1,22, and 28. Can I get the breaks so I can put this away.

1: be/ing
22: As/k
28: co/ach

Nearly there but 2,8,15 and 27 down and 29a are stumping me.
2d I have RESISTING but doesn’t seem grammatical.
8 and 15 produce words not in Chambers.
27 - something to do with FELLIES ? But again word doesn’t exist. (LIESS)

OK, LOESS does for27d. (Odd how asking the question sometimes focusses the mind).
But just noticed 28d - ?EDE

fredcairns - The break in 29ac is in 'sto/ut' and the entry is a fabric.

I agree with you regarding 2dn - it doesn't read very well at all, but it appears to be ok grammatically as the 'is' relates to 'heart' (the additional 'that her' suggested by jacknatter helps but it's still a bit of a stretch!).
