I have just finished the crossword - yes I solved your clue quite quickly I am pleased to say.

Do you have trouble in France with apostrophes, bad grammar etc?

Jigjag,

I was only posting on here because I wanted to draw attention to
the "pedantry = nit picking' clue in today's crossword.

I cannot share your - and others' - sentiments because I think it
terribly bad form to poke fun at, and make comments about, people
perhaps less advantaged than ourselves.

Hello Pigale,

I regret you don`t like the thread.

I did draw attention to Justine Greening using the expression `decision it`in Parliament because it was new to me and I was shocked.
I like Justine and hope she has a successful career in politics. She studied economics at Southampton University and has an MBA from the London Business School. Her potential was recognised in 2014 when she was a guest at the Bilderberg Conference in Copenhagen (where 150 of the `Global Elite`met in secret to discuss World events) so I would not describe her as `less advantaged`.

I agree fully with your comments. As far as I can see, we have only referred to politicians, reporters and others who are well educated but choose to speak or write incorrectly.

I didn't see the cricket but heard on the radio that "Rashid had a remarkable spell taking 4 wickets in an over costing 85 runs".

That must have been some over! Only a Yorkshireman could do that.

I am also sorry that you do not like this thread. I have looked at the postings and cannot find any instances of comments about disadvantaged people. On the contrary, there are many examples of praise for foreign footballers, for example, who speak good English.

I watched the game - after incredible batting by Jos Buttler for us Windies had a chance to win! Rashid bowled his usual mixture of filth and good balls which seems perfect for `white-ball` cricket but not, alas, Test matches. He took 4 wickets in 5 balls which finally ended Windies brave reply.

Thanks Tyke, I'm glad it was not 4-85 in one over!. What a match it was and an amazing run chase. Gayle is superb. He played a few CC games for Worcs but it was always a quick 40. I agree about Rashid. Morgan is desperate for him to play in ODIs. I saw a brilliant one at Old Trafford v Aussies last year, brilliant Buttler/ Rashid partnership from apparently hopeless position and 1-wicket win. Agree he is not a test bowler though.

Jigjag,

Agree Gayle is brilliant considering he can hardly walk - never mind run! The only singles he takes are off the last ball of the over - mind you a few batsmen have been good at counting up to six - a certain GB comes to mind! Ian Botham famously ran Boycs out once - much to everyone`s relief! (I`m one of the few Yorkies who doesn`t think Sir Geoffrey walks on water - in case you were wondering!)
