One clue to go - and any hints would be welcome.
The six letter R clue; it is presumably thematic. I have RA?F?A.
Have I made a mistake?

Thanks

The other r clue is thematic - not this one

I am still not able to parse it - sorry

Plant for use in basketry is the definition (I think!)

The 4-letter thematic R is hidden with alternate letters (reversed) in the clue

Got it - thank you! I was thinking of the singular rather than plural French

I've just finished watching Montalbano and am now back to the crossword, but I'm struggling. Thanks for your hints about some of the clues and explaining the shortage of 9 letter clues.

I love doing alphabetical puzzles, but I too find the joining of the clues difficult to split. I am doubly handicapped by a complete lack of knowledge of the thematic words. At least I knew the cars!

I'll carry on for a bit, but may be back seeking further hints tomorrow.

A belated thanks to Bootlebarth for supplying the vital information at Post 2.
I didn't think I'd persevere with it at first, but I found it an enjoyable puzzle, even with having to Google many of the thematic answers.
