Hello, Elle,
Two weeks is not long to wait for the appliances.
A fridge should do you until then? Or extra jaunts to your Sainsbury for fresh stuff?
Is it a reasonable walking distance?
Yes, I paid Boots to take away my clothes washer.
I had a notion to go for a haircut.
No nagging, no occasion.
Just a notion.
I trimmed eyebrows last week but the lady reckoned they were very erratic so she trimmed them properly.
I have finished my crossword.
Do you know of a Barnes in London?
It fits my crossword but I have not heard of it.

Barnes certainly is part of London. Does it not come into the Boat Race somehow? Not that I ever watch that now/

Thank you, kindly, Rosalind!
There is a faint tinkle in the deepest recesses of my mind now you have mentioned Boat Race.
Do they go under a Barnes Bridge?
That is what is coming to me?

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, we can manage with just the fridge - it doesn't have a freezing compartment, but no matter. It is only for a maximum of two weeks.
We inevitably will waste some of the "thawed-out" food, but there is not enough to worry about claiming compensation.
Our foxes will dine well on it!
Yes, I know of Barnes.....
It is a delightful London village by the Thames.
A most attractive place.
I have a feeling that it is in the Borough of Richmond?
Barnes is only about a mile from Roehampton, where my husband used to live before we were married.
We lived miles apart! He was in Roehampton, well south of the river, and I lived in Hampstead, in North London.
We met whilst we were both working at the Royal Free Hospital.
I have just finished the Times QC - my quickest ever time for it today!

Hello, Elle,
That is the kind of fridge I have.
No freezing bit to it.
So does the Boat Race go near Barnes?
I was certain I had never heard of it.
I had growl at Mr Rogan!
I have heard of Roehampton.
And I have driven through Hampstead, maybe.
Is that near St John's Wood and Swiss Cottage?
I was there a long time ago!
Well done on your crossword!

Hi, Rusty!
The Oxford - Cambridge boat race goes from Mortlake to Putney, finishing near Chiswick Bridge.
It passes Barnes Bridge en route - I think that is the spot in the race where boats have sometimes sunk!
Yes, West Hampstead is a little further north from Swiss Cottage - just up the road!
Hampstead "proper" encompasses Belsize Park (an area of London, not an actual "park")
This is where the Royal Free Hospital is.
Both are south of Golders Green.
St. John's Wood is where Lord's Cricket Ground is.
I hope this helps to orientate you?
How long ago were you there?

Good evening, Elle!
My last jaunt to London would be 50 years ago.
I did not know Lord's was in St John's Wood.
Why "Lord's"?
By the time Mr Rogan's setters have finished with me I shall know a lot more about London!
I have just finished watching "The Fall" about Budd/Decker.
It was excellent. Lasted 2 hours almost.
Those two are like Siamese twins.
That "fall" forever links them.
I felt sorrier for Zola than Mary.
But I had a tear in my eye when they finally met up.
I was hoping to hear a statement from Lizzie, but no.
I was wondering why she missed a couple of races recently.
Seemed a bit strange.

Hey, Rusty!
I think the cricket ground was so called after its founder, Thomas Lord.
But that is the extent of my knowledge!
I have no interest in cricket!
Your programme about Zola and Mary Dekker sounds to have been interesting.
I am glad that you enjoyed it!
I have been reading up about Lizzie........the avoidance of the drugs tests does sound somewhat suspicious....and vaguely reminiscent of Miss Panic Room?
I have read a few comments from Lizzie's colleagues and somehow feel that they might think the same?
I think the fact that all this has only just come to light is what makes me wonder?
We looked on Maria with grave suspicion and condemnation when we first heard about her situation.
Could this be the same?
It would be a great pity - both for Lizzie and for the GB team - were this the case.
I know you like her - do you think she could be taking drugs?
Missing three tests is pushing it a bit...and the reasons didn't sound plausible to me.
I didn't know she had been missing races?
Will more scales be dropping from my eyes?
It is all so depressing!

We've just got back from Hampshire. On Saturday we tried (and failed) to have lunch in a pub in West Meon also named after the same Thomas Lord (booked up).

No worries, though - we did very well at the pub at Warnford instead. We were walking, but we knew in advance that there was no room at the Thomas Lord, so no detour needed!

Hi, Chris!
I think I did well - with my hatred and limited knowledge of cricket! - to know whom the cricket ground in St. John's Wood was named after!
How was your holiday? Did you have a good time?
Were you fern-hunting?
