Hi, Rusty!
I am glad to hear that you are without snow, and that your Wifi is working better!
You have lost me with your reference to "incognito" mode on your Chromebook?
What does that mean / involve?
I am having intermittent trouble again with my Hudl, as it keeps saying "Server Error" when I try to access a page? It rights itself eventually without my having to do anything other than leave it and go back to it later...but it is such a nuisance!
Have you had this happen with yours?
I cannot do Malone's clue? I shall see if I can make a better attempt at it, once we get the Sunday Times and I can see the surrounding clues.
The only "London Calling" I can come up with is an album by The Clash?
There was an Irish clue in the Everyman.......
County's southern dialect, not northern (5)
(I am sure you will know it!)
Now going to brave the dank and dismal day to walk the dog..........

Hello, Elle!
County Sligo, a bit further down the coast from Donegal.
S for Southern, li(n)go for dialect.
I know nothing about "incognito", other than that was the mode the computer was in.
I spotted a dodgy looking wee man in the top left corner of my screen, wearing dark glasses and his coat collar turned up and when I hovered the cursor over him, a caption told me we were in "incognito" mode.
I cannot recall a problem like that on Hudl, but any problems I have had, I have sorted doing a "soft reset".
Hold the on/off button down until the screen goes black.
Takes about 15 seconds or so. then, release the button, wait a minute or two and switch on again. Do not worry, you will not lose anything you have stored. It is what TESCO recommend, if you phone the helpline.

Elle, I'm sure the 'London calling' clue will be quickly solved when you have some letters.

Here's another Sunday Times clue, from this week's Mephisto...
34 A. Cockney girl arranged tie that's twisted (6).

Malone,
I am stumped with 34A.
The only thing I can get is Harriet.
Cockneys allegedly drop "h"'s.
Minus H gives "Arriet"?
Arr could be arranged, and anagram of "tie"
But, surely to goodness it can not be 'Arriet?
It simply can't!
Maybe Elle will get it after her walk.?

Rusty, I think the answer MUST be Arriet! I had A?riet - and, as you say, you add an anagram of Tie to Arr, arranged. It's one of the worst clues, answers that I've seen.

PS. I apologise if the answer turns out to be something else altogether, though I'm virtually certain of the letters I had.

Malone, I would be keen to find out the answer! Next week?
Chambers gives "arr" as an abbreviation of arranged, so it's looking scarily like 'Arriet could be right.
If it is, the crossword editor should have a good look at himself.
I do not like that clue/answer at all!

Hi, Rusty!
We had a very cold, somewhat slippery underfoot, walk!
It wasn't pleasant! I fear the ground will be even more treacherous tomorrow when all the damp and ice freezes again overnight.
I looked up "incognito mode", as I was interested. Apparently, you can browse the Internet in private without Chrome saving the sites that you visit.
(There was no mention of little men wearing dark glasses and with their coat collars turned up.....!
I am never sure when to believe you!)
Yes, I think you are correct with " 'Arriet"- that was my first thought on reading the clue. 'Arr' for arranged and an anagram of 'tie'.
I cannot see an alternative? and Malone had some of the letters......
I don't have the Sunday Times today - could you please give me the crossers for that other clue?

Hello, Elle!
There was certainly a wee dodgy looking guy at the top of my screen, where the tabs are. He has gone, thankfully!
I do not have the crossers for the other one.
It appears that you have to print off the crossword and I can't do that.
I solved one or two just looking at the screen and worked out the answer.
The third letter is "g".
There cannot be an answer "Arriet"? Surely?
I think I shall investigate this "incognito" dude.

Rusty, Elle - Arriet is in Chambers, well, 'Arriet is! The word appears under ' 'Arry (also feminine 'Arriet) a jovial vulgar Cockney.'

You'll be pleased to know that Arryish also exists, from the same meaning.

Hello, Elle,
This is a quote from About Tech site that I found looking for "incognito".
"When Incognito Mode is activated for a particular Chrome tab or window, a logo of a shady character in an overcoat and hat is displayed in the upper left-hand corner of your browser window. While this logo is displayed, all history and temporary Internet files will not be recorded or stored."
Have another look at the page you found incognito on, I am sure he will be shown on it?
