Hello, Doglet!
So what happens if the person is too old or infirm to manhandle his/ her old machine to the outside of their property to await collection?
This must happen in quite a number of cases? and not everyone will have a suitable trolley on which to convey it?
It seems most unreasonable.
When I bought a new washing- machine, the delivery man not only removed the old machine from it's working position in the kitchen, but installed the new machine for me, and then demonstrated its working.
An excellent service , I thought!
(Are you weakening and thinking about having a couple of poodles?)

Hello, Elle!
Me, too, Elle.
It is a bit over my head, like most things!
I am not believing the Bede story!
Paul and Art much better!
Yes, I finished my xword after tea. Not too hard.
I am still plodding my way through Five Families.
I'll be glad to finish it.
Next up is the Do No Harm one about brain surgery.
I got my clothes washing machine from Boots.
They installed it, tested it, and took my old one away, though there may have been a charge for disposal.
I canny right mind, as we say up here.
Miss L Plate and me are lunching tomorrow!
Not sure where. She's the boss!

Hi elle
The people delivering the dishwasher were the only ones who had one in stock,so we had to use them,Some delivery firms are very helpful but I think my review on Amazon will not be a good one.If they had been standard poodles I might have been tempted.I now have so much nonuseful information from my new book it is full of the esoteric and bizarre

Rusty, thanks for taking on the 'pike' research. I think I'll just totally avoid the word, in any of its forms.

Malone, I agree.
The word has meanings that I am very uncomforable with!

Good morning, Rusty!
How are you today?
It's a dull somewhat chilly day here; for the first time since summer began, I found it necessary to wear a lightweight fleece when I ventured out this morning.
No sign of the sun.
" Do no Harm" ? I've heard of that - didn't it win a literary award? I don't know anything about the content though - I'm assuming it's not a medical book about brain surgery , so what form does it take?
I have only just had breakfast on my return from the park - I actually got up late (not until 7 am! ) - this morning, so went straight out with the dog.
We have no plans as yet for today - take it as it comes.
Are you and Miss L-Plate going out for a bacon roll?
(You will have to rename her once she has passed her driving test!)

P. S. Rusty and Malone, I agree it a good idea to put the 'pike' word and various connotations behind us.
I have learnt from this, never to so much as even 'list ' as usage, a word about which I know nothing but have only heard spoken.... in future I will look up a word in the dictionary and find out its meaning and derivation before even referring to it!!

Hello, Doglet!
Yes, definitely, you should write up a critical review! because some one less able than yourselves could be "in quite a pickle" if they had to move a heavy machine on their own. They might even injure
themselves.
I hope the new dishwasher arrives safely and you are pleased with it.

Thanks, elle, I'm delighted to leave pike and all its variations and connotations behind - I think there's no chance of you ever again saying/writing 'overcome the ... problem'!

Elle, you were not on the naughty step!
Calm down, woman! (Who said that?) Cameron?
I am sure we have all said things that in hindsight we wish we did not! And you slept well, so your conscience is clear!
Bit dull here with the odd spot falling.
Yes, the Pine Cone, I think, today.
"Do No Harm", stories of life, death, and brain surgery, by Henry Marsh. I think it is his memoirs.
He is/was Consultant Neurosurgeon at Atkinson Morley's/St George's Hospital in London.
Do you know it?
He has been the subject of two documentaries, Your Life in Their Hands, and The English Surgeon, about his work in Ukraine, which won an Emmy.
I hope it is more uplifting than Five Families!
It gets excellent reviews, so I am quite pleased with my choice. I never thought I'd be reading a book about brain surgery!
I strongly suspect that Miss L Plate will not say a word about her test, just as she did with her Uni application!
I think fleeces are a great advance from woolly jumpers.
But modern lightbulbs are a retrograde step!
